At GW Counselling Services, I provide individualised one-to-one counselling sessions tailored to meet your unique needs. Whether you prefer face-to-face sessions at my practice in Maidenhead, or online sessions via video conferencing, I strive to offer a comfortable and convenient environment for our work together. Additionally, I have extensive experience in telephone counselling, providing a flexible and accessible option for those who prefer this mode of communication. Regardless of the format, my commitment to providing compassionate and effective support remains unwavering.

What to Expect: Following your initial contact, we’ll schedule a brief conversation to discuss your reasons for seeking counselling. We’ll explore whether my services align with your needs and if I am the right fit to support you on your journey. This initial discussion allows us to establish a mutual understanding of your expectations and determine the best course of action moving forward.

Our first counselling session together will serve as an in-depth assessment, where we’ll delve into your specific goals and the time-frame within which you hope to achieve them. Additionally, we’ll establish a working agreement in accordance with the ethical boundaries outlined by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), fostering a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.

Confidentiality and your privacy

At GW Counselling Services, confidentiality is paramount. I uphold strict confidentiality to ensure the privacy and trust of clients. Your personal information and discussions will remain confidential, with rare exceptions. These exceptions may include situations where I believe there is an immediate risk of serious harm to you or others, or concerns related to radicalisation. In such cases, I am committed to taking appropriate measures to ensure safety while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality possible.

The Person Centred Approach

This approach believes that, under the right circumstances, individuals can fulfil their full potential and embrace their authentic selves. To aid in this journey, a person centred counsellor offers:

a) Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR): Accepting and valuing you without conditions.

b) Congruence: Being transparent and honest about their perceptions of you and your experiences.

c) Empathic Understanding: Seeing your perspective as if they were you.

In counselling sessions I encourage you to bring forth your own concerns, with the process being client-led rather than counsellor-directed. Many clients new to counselling may expect counsellors to resolve their issues, but as a person centred counsellor, I assist you in exploring your emotions, beliefs, behaviours, and world view to enhance self-awareness and independence.

I’ll help you identify available resources and support to navigate your challenges, fostering self-confidence and the realisation of available options. Recognising you as the expert on yourself, our collaboration aims to help you discover your solutions.

Fees

At present fees are £50.00 per session and typically last 50 minutes.

I offer a free 15 minute chat where we can get to know one another, ask questions, and to gauge compatibility of issues.

Therapy is about your problems, but more important, it’s the relationship between us both, and the need to feel comfortable and being open with the issues you are facing.

Areas of counselling I deal with

I will help and support you in anything you need to work through. From a one-time offload or something a bit more long-term. I work in a person centred way, meaning I can work with almost any topic you want to bring, even if you are not sure what that is. Sometimes, new feelings come up and the work can change direction, this is just one advantage of the person centred approach.
